31993 Nissan Altima Test Drive
The Altima took over for the Stanza. Even if its outside makeup is new, some of the mechanical elements were from the previous model. With the initial Altima, Nissan tried to take over a good segment of the compact market, representing 33% of the actual total market. The Altima was actually more American than Japanese. It was designed in San Diego at NDI, launched in Michigan and manufactured in Tennessee. Its local content was 70%, the mechanical components came from Mexico. It was a three box four door sedan, offered in four models, XE, GXE, SE and GLE. The There was nothing revolutionary about the first Altima. It represented a sum of good compromises, making it as pleasant to look at as to drive. Its operational budget was very reasonable. IT only lacked a V6 engine for its chance to be complete.
It’s amazing how far the Altima has come looking at this compared to the new 2013 model… I like the manual option of yore though…
