The most intriguing product to come out of Jaguar in the 90s would be a BMW 5-series fighter reminiscent of the Jaguar Mark II. It was planned to bow in 1998. The mid-size, rear-wheel-drive sedan, code named X200, was expected to be built on a new assembly line at Jaguar’s Browns Lane plant. It would be powered by a new multivalve V-8, displacing around 4.0 liters. Although the V-8 would likely be built by Ford, and even though it would borrow other components from the parts bin of Jaguar’s parent company, Ford, the X200’s platform was not planned to be shared with any other Ford division. Well, we all know how that panned out. it’s called scale.
