Chevrolet’s Geo division and Toyota produced one of the most successful hyphenated car projects for 1993, the redesigned Corolla and Geo Prizm, sharing mechanicals , but not interiors or exterior sheet metal.
On the outside, Toyota giave the 1993 Corolla rounded corners quite similar to the Tercel and Camry. On the inside, Toyota stretched the cab, adding three inches of total legroom moving the Corolla from subcompact to compact class. Geo’s Prizm was dimensionally similar, but with a one-piece side panel and a more streamlined instrument panel. Weight and gas mileage were about the same as the previous model. For the first time, a driver-side airbag was standard with all models; ABS was optional.
Under the hood, the Deluxe and top-of-the-line LE models came with a new 1.8-liter, 16-valve engine, which provided 115 horsepower. The base model still had a 1.6-liter powerplant.
