1994 Compact Car Comparison Test Drive

There was a new kid on the block. And there was no denying that it was a charmer. With a happy-go-lucky attitude adn a darn-near irresistible look, this was one winsome lil’ pup.
Trouble was, the new kid moved onto one already very crowded block. But at this point in its resurgence, Chrysler Corp. was hardly going to be fazed by a little population density.
Without stopping at Go, the No. 3 domestic carmaker followed the success of its LH family of large sedans and the Dodge Ram pickup truck with its identical subcompact Neon twins.
These cheeky little sedans faced some very competent adversaries. To see just how much substance the Neon had to back up its advance notices, Motorweek took the Neon and threw it against four of its most direct 4-door sedan rivals: Saturn SL2, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and the Volkswagen Jetta.
All of the players in the test group represented the heart of the market. Each was dressed nicely, despite some minor variations in optional equipment. Which would you choose?
