31995 Dodge Neon Sport Coupe Test Drive
Introduced for 1995, the little Neons were a product of a reinvented Chrysler Corporation: a brilliant design badly in need of refinement. But with their utterly charming looks, the Neon models could persuade you to forgive them just about any fault. And that’s exactly what their hundreds of thousands of buyers have been doing since 1995. After all, these were in fact roomy, powerful and agile little cars. But was that really enough? The Neons direct competitors, the twin Cavalier and Sunfire models, showed that its possible to offer all of the same advantages while including the refinement that modern buyers came to expect and take for granted.

Eh, not really. Remember that the “new” Sunfire and Cavalier were still saddled with the archaic J platform and asthmatic 2.2L pushrod four, while the Neons were entirely new and offered – for the most part – more interior room, better seats, and a far more satisfying driving experience. If only Chrysler had also thought to include better paint and more durable head gaskets…
I had two brand new Neon’s they were both junk. It ruined Chrysler products for me
