Perched atop the Hyundai product roster was a fully redesigned Sonata. Fashioned to fit the company’s edict of affordable, comfortable transportation, this midsize front-drive family sedan was a vast improvement over its predecessor. Fresh aerodynamic styling and large areas of glass provided excellent visibility, while the body structure possessed 20-percent greater rigidity than before. Inside, the large cabin delivered room for five, plus dual airbags. Under the hood resides an improved 2.0-liter/137-horsepower DOHC four or optional 3.0-liter/142-horsepower SOHC V-6. Air conditioning and an AM/FM/cassette stereo were standard; four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock were optional.
