51995 Plymouth Back Pack Concept
Plymouth jumped into the sport utility craze with the Back Pack concept vehicle, a mini sport ute designed to deliver maximum fun. The Back Pack was part utility vehicle, part pickup, and part sports coupe, and Plymouth described it as a “crossover vehicle for young, active people who want to to everywhere, do everything, and have a great time doing it.”
The driver’s seat swivels to face the passenger’s seat, which folds to created a flat work surface for those who need to use their vehicle as a mobile office. A retractable jump seat folds out of the rear of the passenger compartment, and there are built in bicycle racks in the cargo bed. A lockable trunk hides below the bed (ala Ridgeline).Plymouth said the Back Pack was primarily a 2-seater; the rear jump seat was intended for occasional use.
The Back Pack was about as long as a GEO Tracker (142 inches)but took a more aggressive stance with its wider track and 18-inch wheels. Despite itssport utility styling, the Back Pack wasnt designed for off road use, so it had front wheel drive instead of AWD. The power train was a 135hp 2.0 four cylinder engine and three speed automatic transmission.
