01995 Suzuki Swift Test Drive
To celebrate its 10th anniversary of selling automobiles on our shores, American Suzuki Motor Corporation unveiled a redesigned Swift for 1995. As the only car amid this Japanese manufacturer’s arsenal of sport/utility models (Samurai and Sidekick) the affordable, front-drive Swift was far from a rough-and-tumble machine. Attractive aerodynamic body shaping formed a larger and roomier cabin than that of its predecessor, and brought standard dual airbags and optional ABS for the first time. Adequate performance and impressive fuel economy were provided by the 1.3-liter/70-horsepower inline-four. Previous four-door and GT versions were discontinued.
