01996 Acura TL Test Drive
Introduced in late 1995 ostensibly to replace the unlamented Vigor, the front-drive TL sedan imparted absolute competence to its driver, one of the greatest luxuries of all. In the 2.5TL, 176 horsepower came from a 2.5-liter 20-valve SOHC inline-five, while the 3.2TL derived its 200 horsepower from a 3.2-liter SOHC V-6. Both cars came standard with nearly every luxo-gizmo, and their roomy passenger compartments were finished with elegant wood trim. Almost exactly the same size as the original 1986 Legend, and with the Legend about to be replaced by a new, Larger car, the TL would inherit its legacy in the battle against the Lexus ES 300 and Infiniti I30.
