41996 Chevrolet S-10 3-door Sportside Test Drive
Compact sport trucks were often called the sports cars of the nineties, not necessarily because they handled well, in general they didn’t, but because the were expressive, distinctive and price-wise accessible to young people. And most were used for personal transportation. Chevrolet engineers kept that in mind when designing the S-Series pickups that debuted in 1994. The small Chevy trucks had smooth rounded contours and plenty of variations, from standard truck to boonie bouncing ZR2, or the performance oriented SS. New for the 1996 year, was the optional side access panel for easier loading of anything you want safe and dry in the Extended Cab pickup. Another option that debuted in the spring of ’96 for regular and extended cab LS models was the sport-side cargo box. With a load width at the floor of 50.6 inches and a length of 72.4 inches the toughened steel box was as usable as it was fashionable.
