01996 Lamborghini Diablo VT Test Drive
Perhaps a calliope pulled by 492 vigorous Italian bulls might attract more attention than a Lamborghini Diablo VT but it’s not likely. The VT (Viscous Traction) all-wheel-drive version of the 5.7-liter/492 horsepower V-12 mid-engine supercar entered 1996 pretty much unchanged from 1995 and packed everything expected of an exotic. That included tires as wide as Oregon, a 0-60-mph time down near four seconds, and a reported 202-mph top speed. Later on in 1996, the Targa like removable roof Diablo became available. The Diablo remained Lambo’s sole offering this year, but rumors always abounded (as always) of a LM002 replacement.
