1997 Cadillac Catera Test Drive

Jointly developed with Opel, the Omega MV6-based, German-built Catera arrived for 1997 as Cadillac’s only rear-drive car, and the only domestic-badged sedan to compete directly with the likes of the Lexus ES300, Mercedes-Benz C280, and a host of others. The Catera’s generous interior space, European driving feel, and Cadillac luxury put it in good stead. The competitive 3.0-liter/200-horsepower standard V-6, four-speed automatic transmission, and traction control didn’t hurt either. Offered in just one trim level, the Catera came with standard cloth upholstery, but could be optioned with leather, plus an eight-speaker Bose audio system and a trunk-mounted CD changer.
