21997 Ford Expedition Test Drive
Ford’s long awaited answer to Chevrolet’s popular 4-door Tahoe, the Expedition accommodated serious trailer towing with more comfort than an F150 or Econoline. Ford shunned any comparison with the Tahoe’s similar but even bigger brother the Suburban, calling it a heavy duty wagon only because it had one version with a gross-weight rating over 8500 pounds. Like the Suburban, the Expedition offered third row seats, but had less remain cargo space (12 cubic feet with three rows, or 32 with two). The Expedition replaced the Bronco and ironically, probably competed with ford’s own Explorer, which was about the same price. Based on the big F-150 pickup and offered only as a f-door, the Expedition came in Ford’s familiar XLT and Eddie Bauer editions.
