21997 Ford Taurus SHO Test Drive
True to form, Ford kept the Taurus on the leading edge of style. Although some buyers may have felt that the second gen (1996) Taurus was a little over the edge, its functional attributes were unarguable. Quiet and confident on the road, the Taurus had the well made feel for which the best imports were so often praised. The sedan came in four different trim levels, with three engine possibilities. The wagon gets two trim level sand a pair of V6s. A 3.0 liter/145 horsepower V6 was the basic motivator, with a smooth and desirable 200 horse twin cam V6 serving as the upgrade. At the top of the line was the SHO’s Yamaha-built 3.4 liter 235 horsepower V8, which hit 60mph in 7.5 seconds.
