In many places in America, the “family car” looked a lot like the GMC Sierra. Full-size pickups are the best selling vehicles in America. The Sierra’s wide range of configurations and equipment was part of the reason why. With regular, extended, and crew cabs, the Sierra could carry up to six passengers atop a rear or four wheel drive powertrain, with a short or long cargo box out back. There was no shortage of power train choices either, with V6 power standard, backed up by V8s that burn gas, diesel, natural gas, everything except hay. For 1997, there was a passenger side airbag on most versions, and improvements to transmissions and steering gear.
