01997 Kia Sportage Test Drive
Not willing to send the kids to public school just to keep pace with escalating sport/ute prices? Take a look at the roomy Korean built Sportage. True, the only leather or wood you’d find in its interior was in your shoes and the pine 2×6 you brought home from the lumber yard, but the Sportage offered the virtues of an honest to goodness SUV. 1997’s technical advancement was a driver side knee airbag that worked in conjunction with a conventional airbag to reduce driver injuries in a frontal collision. No passenger side airbag was available. Both Sportage trim levels were now powered by te same 2.0 Liter/130hp DOHC inline four that was upgraded fin 1996.
