11997 Oldsmobile Bravada Test Drive
If 1997 started out with a snowstorm, it would have been nice to be in an Oldsmobile Bravada because as always, it had SmartTrak AWD, replete with 4-wheel ABS and a locking rear differential. Not that some new refinements weren’t found. Standard for 1997 were 4-wheel disc brakes, a one piece liftgate and an optional sunroof. The luxurious leather laden Bravada also benefited from a more efficient automatic transmission. If there was any doubts about the Bravada’s all weather abilities, consider that it won its class in the Alcan Winter Rally held earlier that year in Alaska.
I prefer the simple, clean look of the front clip on the 96-97’s to the overdone, “cluttered” look of the 98-01’s. IMHO, whoever signed off on the ’98 “update” should be shot! Although it isn’t quite as repulsive as, say, a Pontiac Aztec, I still squirm when I see a Bravada with that hideous front clip…
