When they say 3 ‘series’,they’re not kidding. With eight different variations on the 3 Series coupe, convertible, and sedan theme, BMW’s entry-level car was nothing if not diverse. the favorite , of course , the wicked-fast M3, either in coupe or sedan form. Even when paired with an automatic (a five speed no less), you’d hig 60 mph in the low sixes. Lesser 3 Series models were not as intense, but still delivered sensory treats absent in all but a handful of other cars. For 1998, all (with the exception of the 318ti) got standard front-seat side airbags, adn the whole lot got rear-seat head restraints. A new 2.5-liter/168-horsepower inline six was added as an upgrade from the base four-cylinder engine.
