1998 Ford Ranger Test Drive

Seems like everybody’s getting cosmetic surgery these days. Ford’s Ranger pickup joined the star-studded list, but did the celebs one better. Not even Cher could claim to have had her cabin extended 3-inches., True enough, beneath the new front end and general freshening, the Ranger had substantive changes that made it roomier, improved ride and handling, and generally improved this popular truck. There was a new front-suspension carried by a beefed up front frame section. The base four-cylinder engine grew to 2.5-liters and now developed 117-horsepower (up 5). The upgrade engines were a pair of V-6’s, in 3.0-liter/145-horsepower and 4.0-liter/158-horsepower.
