GMC wanted to be different from Chevrolet. However, all the products it sold were available in virtually identical form as Chevy’s. GMC intended to be the more premium brand. But the only evidence was that it charged slightly higher prices for the same vehicle. GMC gave buyers a choice of four trim levels, although the top two were available in 4-door models only. The SL was the base level and he SLS was the sportier version. SLE 4-door models were aimed at those seeking additional comfort, while SLT was the 4-door “touring” trim level. Each of these got its own suspension setting, giving buyers a choice of four. Available only on 2-door models was the Highrider Sport package. The ride became harsher, but the tires, springs and shocks provided better performance for those who actually ventured off road.
