01998 Isuzu Trooper Test Drive
It was a big year for Isuzu’s biggest sport utility, the Trooper. Not only were there freshened styling details all around and a completely new front end, the Trooper was also packing an upgraded engine. The new 3.5-liter V-6 sported DOHC cylinder heads and extra displacement to boost output from 190 to 215 horsepower. It was coupled with an automatic transmission and a new “torque on demand” full-time four-wheel-drive system. Thumb the new keyless remote entry system, hop inside this roomy ‘ute, and you’d find a new gauge cluster, revised audio systems, and changes to the seat material. The Trooper was available in S, LS, and Limited trim levels. Acura sold a version of the same vehicle called the SLX.
