01998 Lincoln Town Car Test Drive
As the sole purveyor of domestic full-size rear drive sedans, Ford and its divisions continued to advance the art. Nowhere was that more apparent than in the new Lincoln Town Car. With a modern, rounded body that recalled traditional themes and a fresh, accommodating interior, the Town Car was aimed at 50-something executives and 60-something empty-nesters. more than 80 percent new from the ground up, this was more than just a stylistic advance: it had a more rigid, quieter chassis and reworked suspension and steering. Both available engines gained 10-horsepower: Executive and Signature series cars had a 4.6-liter/200-horsepower V-8 and the Cartier version packed 220 horses.
