01999 Buick Cielo Concept Car
Buick’s contribution to the show car scene at Detroit in 1999, was the Cielo. Billed as a ‘no compromise’ convertible, this four door front drive al fresco exercise featured fixed side rails and a three-segment retractable roof that slid back into the trunk area. Endowed with several classic division specific styling cues and a bold grille reminiscent of the Harley Earl’s famed ’38 Buick Y-Job concept, the Cielo boasted a number of high-tech features, including reconfigurable instrumentation, remote control door and ignition systems, push button transmission, and voice activation of several operational functions. Motivating force came from a production supercharged 3.8 liter 240 horsepower Buick V6.
