Designed on a totally new platform, the Ford Focus was set to provide economical transportation without compromising interior room, safety, or convenience. Since junk-food-fed Americans keep getting taller (and wider) every generation, the Focus was one of the most spacious interiors in its class. Lively exterior styling and an ergonomically sensible ‘interior gave the Focus some flair without screaming ‘econobox’. The coupe came in base and ZX3 trim levels; the sedan was labeled as LX, SE and ZTS; and the wagon only in the SE trim level. All body styles were motivated by a standard 2.0-liter/110-horsepower SOHC inline-four, while an available upgrade to a 2.0-liter/130-horsepower DOHC inline-four was the recommended mill.
