One of the top-selling sedans in America, Ford’s Taurus raised the safety bar in 2000. Advanced restraint systems, dual stage airbag inflation, side airbags, power adjustable pedals and an innovative emergency trunk release system helped make the Taurus one of the safest sedans on the market.  An exterior redesign called on the sedan’s heritage, but ironed a few crisp creases into the distinctive ovoid design.  interior revisions made the audio and climate controls more intuitively useful.  The basic LX powertrain was an upgraded 3.0 liter/153 horsepower V6.  Also available was a 200 horsepower SE variation.  Sorry, sports fans, there was no longer a SHO variant.
