02000 GMC Envoy Test Drive
The Envoy was GMC’s most “refined ” Jimmy, so much so that the company gave it another name. Refined meant fancied up and more expensive, and for the Envoy it meant availability as a 4-door, 4wd with the automatic 4-wheel drive system Autotrac. Its Vortec 4300 V-6 was rated at 190 bhp and came with a 4-speed automatic transmission featuring a Tow/Haul mode that adjusted shift points for towing or carrying heavy loads. The Envoy also came with Premium luxury ride suspension featuring automatic rear load-leveling, plus an air pump, hose and nozzles for inflating bike tires or air mattresses. The Envoy was distinguished by the consolidated lighting pod on either side of its classic GMC grille. The lights included high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps that produced almost triple the light of conventional headlamps. Inside, the Envoy featured heated 8-way power/memory leather seats, Zebrano wood trim, and a 6-CD changer in the console. And that’s “refinement”.
