2000 Mercedes Benz CL500 Test Drive
Given the arrival of the new-generation S-Class during 1999, the rejuvenation of the mechanically related CL coupe wasn’t far behind. Propelled with gusto by a 5.0-liter/302-horsepower DOHC V-8, this personal luxury coupe featured a fresh exterior design distinguished by trademark Mercedes-Benz round headlamps, sleek rounded fenders, and a dynamic roofline. An advanced Active Body Control System worked to eliminate pitch and roll during cornering, braking, and acceleration – improving control and handling stability. Despite the new technology and limited supply, the CL was priced no higher than the previous V-8 version.
