2000 Nisan Frontier vs Toyota Tundra Comparison Test Drive
Looking to be more competitive in the increasingly demanding truck market, Nissan introduced the Frontier Crew Cab, a compact truck with four full size doors. Unique styling had provided this rig with comfortable room for five and a short box. Standard with a 3.3 liter 170 hp V6, the Crew Cab could be had in rear or four wheel drive, with a five speed manual or four speed automatic transmission, and in two trim levels with various option packages.
Toyota hoped its completely new entry into the full size pickup market, the Tundra, would produce sales numbers competitive with domestic trucks. With all that the Indiana built rig had to offer, success should not have been a problem. Tundra’s standard powerplant was a capable 3.4 liter 190 hp V6, but upgrade to the optional 4.7 liter 245 hp V8, and you’d get impressive 7.9 second 0-60 times, and a 7200 lb towing capacity.
