02002 BMW X5 4.6is Test Drive
Emphasizing the “sport” in Sport/Utility vehicle, the BMW X5 was better thought of as a tall AWD sport wagon that could outrun many sedans on back roads. Yet it offered the versatility of a wagon and extra clearance and traction for snow days and dirt roads. There wasn’t any lack of power, With a choice of either a 225 hp inline six, mated to a manual or automatic five speed, or a 282 hp V8 and automatic combination. The 4.6 liter 347 hp model hit later in the model year. The X5 featured amenities like ABS, traction and stability control, and front side airbags.
