The 1999 Motor Trend Car of the year added an upgraded performance model for 2002, dubbed the 300M Special. Chrysler tweaked another 5 hp and 7 lb-ft of torque out of the 3.5L SOHC V6, rustled up a firm feel steering gear and stiffer springs and struts, and stuffed the meatiest unidirectional Michelin Pilot Sport tires and alloy wheels it could fit into the Specials wheelwells. Curbside, ground effect skirts and chrome tipped dual exhausts set it all off. All 2002 300M’s received a new grille, electronic brake distribution to the standard ABS, and LATCH child seat safety anchors.
