Going for an even bigger big-rig look, the Ram 1500 was overhauled from road to roof tor 2002. Both regular cab and quad cab models added 3-in of fore/aft space inside, shortening bed length an equal amount. The quad cab got four full size front hinged doors and an available 60/40 split rear seat with a fold down metal loading platform. The Ram’s frame was hydroformed front to back for increased solidity and 4WD models got independent front suspension for the first time. Two new overhead cam engines, a multi-speed automatic transmission, and optional 20-in wheels debuted as well.
