Seeking to broaden the appeal of its critically acclaimed but slow selling IS 300 luxo-performance sedan, Lexus added a new SportCross wagon variant for 2002 and introduced a five speed manual gearbox to go along with the existing five-speed/button-type auto-shifter. There were other upgrades, as well, including front side-curtain airbags, Brake Assist for the standard ABS binders, and electrochromic rear- and sideview mirrors. Also available for ’02 were Vehicle Skid Control on the SportCross and automatic sedan, Lexus’ DVD based navigation system, full leather interior, and a jaunty rear spoiler for the sedan.
