2002 Mini Cooper Road Test

The original Mini debuted in 1959 and became an instant icon. When BMW sold the Rover Group, it kept the Mini brand and continued developing this enticing replacement.  A 1.6 liter, 16-valve SOHC 4-cylinder put out a modest 115 hp and 110 lb-ft of torque, but the Mini’s light weight made it a fun-to-drive handler.  Its structure was an amazing 50 percent more rigid than the 3-series BMW.  Tranny choices included a five speed manual or a CVT. Although the car was two feed longer than the original, it was still one of the smallest four passenger cars sold.
