After a decade of selling compact cars while sales of SUV’s soared, Saturn finally introduced its own compact SUV in 2002. Actually comparable in size to a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Lexus RX300, the new VUE featured Saturn’s trademark spaceframe construction and dent resistant polymer body panels. The Lotus developed base twin cam four cylinder was available with a continuously variable transmission, while the Opel-designed V6 teamed with a five speed automatic. Inside, 70/30 split folding reclining rear seats and a fold flat front passenger seat would accommodate an 8-ft step ladder.
