While similar in size to its predecessor and continuing on with a front drive configuration, the fifth generation of Toyota’s perennial best seller was all new for 2002. Slightly larger inside, it also offered more style, safety, and refinement. Base engine was an equally new 2.4L/157hp DOHC four fitted with variable valve timing. The existing 3.0L/192hp twin cam V6 carried over as an option. Trim levels included LE, XLE, and a new sport oriented SE hat came with a full sport suspension package. All featured more aggressive pricing and an expanded list of standards.
