An elegant sedan with a coupe profile, the S60 shared much of its basic architecture with the larger S80 and V70. But it had a distinctly sporting character that set it apart. A trio of five-cylinder engines and two transmission choices included a 2.4L/168hp mated to a smooth five speed manual transmission or available five speed electronically controlled automatic. The S60 2.4T generated 197hp from the same 2.4L, thanks to a low pressure turbocharger. The T5 model delivered 247hp from a 2.3L I5 with a high pressure intercooled turbo. New for 2002 the 2.4T model was available with AWD.
