The production SSR convertible pickup looked almost exactly like the concept that appeared at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show. Its top folded and lowered behind the front seats at the push of a switch. The SSR was built on a modified Trailblazer frame and powered by the 5.3L V8, boosted from 285hp to about 300. A four speed automatic sent power to a torque sensing limited slip rear differential. Waiting lists filled early for this unique roadster pickup, which was built in the Lansing Craft Center, designed to manufacture only low volume models, at a rate of just 10,00 a year.
