12003 Hummer H2 Test Drive
GM’s Hummer division created the H2 by stretching and optimizing a Tahoe/Suburban chassis for the most challenging off road trails in the US.: Rubicon, Golden Spike, and Moab. Aluminum plates covered all undercarriage components, and body overhangs were trimmed so the H2 was 30 in. shorter than a Suburban. The transmission had widely spaced ratios, and the center and rear differentials could be locked electronically. What’s more, the anti lock system used traction control to brake slipping wheels or could be switched to allow limited wheelspin to “paddle” through deep sand. This was an ultimate off-roader.
