In a quest to establish an unquestioned performance image for its product line, Infiniti was cranking up horsepower levels right and left. With the Q45 leaping to 340 and the I35 to 260, the entry-level G car was next in line. And parent Nissan was doing lots more than just bumping the power. For 2003, the friendly little 145 horsepower front drive G20 was replaced by the G35, a rear drive Skyline based sedan with its own version of the corporates VQ V6 good to about 280 horsepower. You could choose between a 6-speed manual box and a 5-speed automatic. And styling was based on the XVL show car.
