When Jaguar introduced the XKR in 1999, it deftly followed its forebears’s lineage: curvaceous body lines, supple leather interior, taut suspension, and a positive power to weight ratio. Powered by a supercharged 4.0L AJ V-8, the Jag ran 0-60mph in around 5 seconds and the quater in 13.6. For 2003, the XKR powerplant was enlarged to 4.2L, good for an additional 20 hp and now backed by a ZF six ratio automatic, replete with a detent rich J-gate shifter.
Outside, the feline’s flanks remained relatively unchanged, save the new standard Xenon headlamps, hood louvers, and badging. Inside, upgraded Recaro high bolster seats were available, as well as leather wrapped Momo steering wheel and shift knob.
