In 2003 nearly one in every five new vehicles wold in the U.S. was a pickup, and its popularity, due in large part to function and value, continued to grow as more personal use buyers made it part of their lifestyles.
Pickup trucks once were the ugly stepchild of the auto industry – tolerated, but hardly attention grabbing. Today, it’s almost cliche’ to say that pickup trucks are no longer just for job sites and towing duty. Seems like every manufacturer was paying attention to this segment, either with a totally new design or something significantly revised. Full-size trucks from Ford, Chevy, and Dodge often have been the number one, two, and three best selling vehicles for many decades.
They may not be sexy to those enamored of blinding speed, high rev power, and formula car handling, but that’s not what pickups are about. They’re made with more practical design parameters in mind. Of course, that doesn’t mean a pickup can’t have a fun side to its personality, as seen in this video!
