A completely new 9-3 premium compact sport sedan rode on GM’s larger Epsilon platform. The initial 9-3 Linear model was fitted with Saab’s new 2.0L/175 hp DOHC turbo I-4 and a five speed manual or four speed automatic transmission. In early 2003, the mid level Arc and top-line Vector gained a 210 hp high output turbo coupled to a six speed manual or autobox. Standard safety features included ESP, traction control, Saab’s active head restraints, dual stage front airbags , and side curtain airbags.
