The youth oriented Matrix crossover wagon shared a good deal of common engineering with the new Corolla sedan and borrowed power-train pieces from it as well as the Celica GTS. Standard, XR, and XRS trims were offered; the XR in both FWD and AWD configurations. Air conditioning, tinted glass, AM/FM/CD stereo, dual 12V power-points, and 16-in wheels/tires were found on all. The XR added a host of power amenities, while the XR got the 180hp engine, sport suspension, and 17-in wheels/tires.
