2004 GMC Envoy XUV Test Drive

Kudos to GMC for introducing the most versatile spin on the SUV to date. In a nutshell, the new Envoy XUV was a long-wheelbase Envoy XL with a new body aft of the C-pillar. The XUV gained a power sliding rear roof, a Midgate with power glass, a drop or swing tailgate with power window, and an all-weather, quick drain cargo areo. That meant five passengers could ride in air-conditioned comfort while you carried a tree and peat moss home from the nursery. Or fold down the Midgate and tote 4×8 sheets of plywood. Powertrain choices included the Vortec 4200 inline-six or 530 V-8 with rear drive or Autotrac 4WD.
