2004 Mercedes Benz E500 4Matic V8 Wagon Test Drive
The E-Class, sleek and new from the ground up in 2003, skipped the usual nothing-new second-year blues. In addition to the supercharged 469-horsepower E55 AMG range introduced in mid-2003, the lineup was broadened with new-generation E320 (221-horse V-6) and E500 (302-horse V-8) wagons, now offered in sport versions or with 4Matic all-wheel-drive. E500 models took gear changing to a new level with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel returned as well.
