Wind-in-the-hair motoring returned to Saab for 2004 with the new 9-3 convertible. Safety features included a “ring of steel” structural reinforcement, side airbags, active head restraints, and pop-up rollbars. The 9-3 Arc and new Aero models came with a high output 2.0-liter/210-horse turbocharged four teamed with a five or six speed manual or Sentronic five-speed automatic transmission. The base Linear sedan had a 175-horse light pressure turbo. All 9-3’s were fitted with leather trim, OnStar, and stability control. Aeros sported 17-inch alloys, a full body kit, and a tire pressure-monitoring system.
