2004 Volkswagen Touareg Test Drive

It may have been late to the SUV market, but VW tried hard to make the Touareg more than just another SUV. It was available with three engine choices and a six-speed automatic. Tiptronic transmission. The 4XMotion permanent AWD system had low-range gearing, automatic torque distribution, and seven traction-control systems including hill descent and hill rollback control. The Touareg was designed fo serious off-roading, especially when fitted with the optional air-suspension that provided three damping settings, and six adjustable ride heights for a Hummer-like maximum ground clearance of 11.8-inches.
