Muscle car mania was in full gallop with a completely new 2005 Ford Mustang. Styling evoked the 1667-1970 series with a classic horizontal grille, three-bar tail lights, and fastback profile. A new base 4.0-liter SOHC V-6 put out 202-horses, while the GT’s three-valve 4.6-liter V-8 generated 300. Both transmitted power to a solid rear axle via five-speed manual or new five-speed automatic transmission. With a six-inch wheelbase stretch, the D2C platform provided more spacious 2+2 seating. Drivers could change colors on the new instrument cluster to match their mood.
