2005 Lotus Elise Test Drive
The Elise wowed Lotus fans elsewhere and was finally available in the U.S. It packed supercar performance and handling with exotic-car looks in a small package. Amazingly, it was also easy to drive around town, thanks to a six-speed close ratio gearbox and Toyota Matrix engine. The back-to-basics car had a bare metal cockpit and a removable roof section. It came alive on winding two-lane roads, with its go-kart-like handling. Despite its diminutive size and light weight, the car was quite crashworthy and had some storage space behind the engine.
