2005 Toyota Corolla XRS Test Drive
Even though the ninth-generation Corolla was on the market for only two years, Toyota redesigned its front grille, bumper, and headlamps for 2005. In addition to the base CE, mid level S, and luxurious LE models, there was a new sporty XRS model with a retuned 170-horse version of the 1.8-liter engine in the Celica (and the Lotus Elise), along with a six-speed gearbox. The XRS also featured a sport-tuned suspension complete with a strut tower brace, a sport steering ratio, and 16-inch wheels. The sporting theme continued inside with sport seats and silver-look instrument cluster and switch plates.
